Checkpoint: Clementinum
The Clementinum is a large building complex founded in 1556. With more than two hectares, it is one of the largest building complexes in Europe.
From the beginning there was a school, later promoted to a university. In addition to the classrooms and community spaces, church buildings, a pharmacy, a theater, a printing house, an observatory and an impressive library were built in the area.
The baroque library contains over 20,000 volumes and contains a number of significant and unique works of global significance.
The local collection of geographical and astronomical celestial globes is also not to be missed, and there is also an astronomical clock.
Today, the Clementinum is the seat of the National Library of the Czech Republic, which manages the complex, with the exception of churches.
